2019 Veggie & Flower Shares - Sign up now

Wowza! Time is just flying by. We have been in the field for 2 months now turning in our cover crops and seeding the season of eating's crops. We eat all year of course, but eating straight from the garden, the food we've grown ourselves, the food we grow for our community? So delicious. So fresh. The season of eating!

It's been a whirlwind of a start, setting up a new farm site on the western lawns of George Pearson Centre. Last year, we had to move from our old farmsite of 9 years, to make way for the bulldozers. Through the support of ONNI, Rob Taylor, The Gibson Family Foundation, Stantec and in collaboration with DABC, George Pearson Centre and Vancouver Coastal Health the market garden has successfully reestablished itself on new grounds. And for our 10th year anniversary no less.

We, yet again, have an amazing crew of staff and volunteers that are making the transition go smoothly. Alongside the usual Spring work of tilling the soil, finely raking seed beds, and seeding the sugar snap peas, lettuce, spinach, kale, swiss chard, turnips, carrots, beets, onions, tat soi, pac choi, gai lan, broccolini, kohlrabi etc. etc. etc. the team has outfitted our new greenhouse, built a new three-bin compost system, installed the irrigation anew, established a new strawberry patch, made way for a new harvest centre and much much more.

We have a lot of food growing out there. The seedlings are still small but with the flush of sun this week, and all systems go for the month of May, we are going to have buckets and buckets of fresh salad greens, herbs & roots by our first harvest date of May 28th.

We need more folks to join our harvest box program and share in the bounty. Harvest box members join our Community Supported Agriculture program and support us farmers and farmers-in-training in a truly meaningful way.

We are a small-scale urban farm, less than an acre, who create agricultural learning opportunities for folks that live in the city. Our food and flowers thrive in living soils fed by composts, cover crops and gazillions of micro-organisms that nurture strong healthy plants. We provide our CSA members with same day freshness & the utmost nutrition.

The CSA model enables us to do all this (and more) by guaranteeing the harvest is sold. With the harvest sold, we can focus on growing amazing food & flowers (& soil!) and training people in sustainable agriculture skills. CSA members eat in season, uber-locally, and learn how to get the most out of the eating season's bounty. We reduce food waste by growing a specific quantity of veggies for a specific number of shares. We eat well.

Join our small farm community in the city. Be a CSA member. We need people like you. It makes a difference.
